Improving Automation Through Innovation

How does it work?

DataLynx is easy to install, configure and operate. The user simply installs the DataLynx software on a PC or file server and configures the phone number and memory addresses of the remote devices. Absolutely no additional programming is required of the user.

DataLynx Server

The DataLynx software package includes a Server application that runs as a Microsoft Windows service. The Server is capable of collecting an unlimited amount of data from an unlimited number of remotely located devices. The service runs on its own whether or not anyone is logged-in on the Server PC. The user does not need to be present to manually start the program each time the computer is restarted – DataLynx will automatically begin data logging.

Sample screen: DataLynx is equipped with an easy-to-use graphical interface, which can be

used to start, stop or pause its services. It also provides a very simple way to install and uninstall

the service. This DataLynx Server screen shows the status of the service.

The data collected by the DataLynx Server will be saved into comma-delimited or tab-delimited text files on your PC.

The DataLynx Server has a useful Diagnostic Error Log window available for on-the-spot troubleshooting. The Error Log window shows the status of the Server and indicates whether the Server is started, stopped or paused. It also communicates whether or not the data being received from the remote devices matches the Server configuration.

you to diagnose problems instantly and view real-time events. The Error Log window can

be accessed from the Server PC. It also can be accessed from any other PC on the network,

using the DataLynx Monitor application.

DataLynx Monitor

The DataLynx software package also includes a Monitor application. It is used to configure the Server’s file-creation cycle, as well as the modem and device listings. It also configures the polling interval.

Sample screen: The DataLynx Monitor's main start-up screen displays currently configured PLCs

and their status.  It also displays the status of the Server and Monitor applications.

Using the Monitor application, users can configure the Server to log data to the Server’s hard drive in a comma-delimited or tab-delimited text file. A date/time stamp and file alias also can be included for each data item sent. From the Monitor application, the Server also can be configured to archive the logged files into a ZIP file. Once archived, files can be deleted automatically from the log, according to parameters set by the user. Archiving and deleting can occur daily, monthly or yearly.

Sample screen: The Device Configuration screen can be accessed from the DataLynx Monitor application. The Device

Configuration screen allows the user to control device listings, file-creation cycles, view options, and archiving and deleting.

The DataLynx Monitor also allows the user to view and archive the text files that are stored on the Server's hard drive. Files can be opened or viewed in Notepad, Excel, or another program of choice. The Monitor is able to run conveniently from any PC that is networked to the Server. This allows the user to retrieve important industrial data - even without having physical access to the Server or plant devices.

Sample Screen: The Monitor's Report menu is one of DataLynx's most useful features. It allows the user to view,

print and save the files that are generated and stored by the Server. This keeps people connected to the plant, even

when physical access to the Server and the remotely located industrial devices is not possible.
